Position Summary:
The Environmental Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, reporting and continuous improvement of environmental policies and strategies that align with the GMR’s vision, mission and values. The Manager will coordinate with Operations to provide leadership to ensure all environmental processes are in compliance with government regulations and industry standards with the primary goal being to protect employees, customers, the community and the environment.  Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee permitting processes related to air emissions, water discharge, and hazardous waste management
  • Act as the interface with regulatory agencies such as TCEQ, and also with third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues
  • Conduct routine environmental audits and inspections to identify and mitigate compliance risks
  • Oversee Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of environmental controls as well as Preventative Maintenance (PM)
  • Manage the required environmental training for employees and validate the training courses meet the appropriate CFR regulations and permit requirements. This responsibility includes tracking and record keeping of the training on a per employee basis.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports for environmental monitoring, including waste disposal, air quality, and water treatment
  • Utilize laboratory data to prepare environmental compliance reports per the site’s operating permits
  • Prepare permitting documents that include reports, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, permit applications, and contract documents
  • Assist with design calculations, bid packages and specifications for remedial technologies.
  • Train teams and individuals on environmental related tasks and activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements that reduce environmental impact
  • Investigate and report environmental incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Foster a culture of environmental stewardship across the organization
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering (needs to be a technical degree), or related field in addition to a minimum of five years of experience managing the environmental compliance of air, water and hazardous materials.
  • Must possess working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance including RCRA.
  • Capability of engaging with state and federal regulatory agencies, the local community, elected officials and non-governmental organizations.
  • Ability to understand process flow diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Ability to write procedures and reports.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent communication skills.
    Working Conditions:
  • Salary position includes Days, Nights, weekends and holidays may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, reach and bend as required.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended times as needed.
  • Must be able to pass employment physical including a drug and alcohol test.
  • Must be able to wear safety gear and required PPE.
