Position Summary:

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performs relief operator duties to support safety and plant operations.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Complete required training as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot and recommend plan of action.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and recognize areas for improvement.
  • Act as a relief Shift Foreman.
  • Train and qualify to operate all Hydro units, including Feeder, CCR, Thickeners, Moly, Vanadium and Solvent Extraction.
  • Train and act as a responder, and emergency coordinator. First aid qualified.
  • Act as the eyes and ears of the Shift Foreman in all areas of the plant.
  • Assist all other operators, or on special projects, as needed.
  • Train other operators, as needed.
  • Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Draw samples of products, and conduct quality control tests in order to monitor processing, and to ensure that standards are met.
  • Interpret chemical reactions visible through sight glasses or on monitors, and review laboratory test reports for process adjustments.
  • Communicate to management and operators in a clear and concise manner.
  • Troubleshoot and identify recurring and general problems and make recommendations to Production Superintendent for plan of action.
  • Advise Management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • All other duties as assigned by Production Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates of Process Technology preferred.
  • Previous plant experience preferred.
  • Required to be familiar with basic handheld and power tools and equipment such as but not limited to: forklift, crane, scissor lift, barrel grabbers, etc.
  • Must be familiar with all the equipment to perform the tasks stated above.
  • Must be trained on and employ proper Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Must be able to work as a team.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to receive and complete training in the following areas: OSHA, LOTO, DOT, HAZMAT, NCCER, RCRA, Site-Specific Training Mine, and all other trainings/certifications are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in a plant facility, outdoors in all weather conditions to include extreme heat, cold, wind and precipitation. Work may be performed in tight, confined spaces that require appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Regularly exposed to dust, noise, odors, chemicals and fumes. Appropriate PPE will be provided, and employees are required to always wear designated PPE.
  • Rotating shift work is required for this position. Overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required per the established schedule or as needed to meet production goals. Employees may be called upon to volunteer for call-out opportunities.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel, and climb stairs/ladders for an entire shift.
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test and employment physical including a drug and alcohol test.
  • Must wear safety gear and required PPE.
