Position Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will manage the purchasing of all materials, Inventory/Warehouse, supplies, and equipment for the best price, quality, and delivery to meet the requisitioner’s requirements, and reduce total cost of ownership of the total external purchase amount including materials, supplies, services and equipment.  Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Mitigate supply risks.
    • Improve purchasing process from requisition to pay.
    • Team Management – hiring, training, regular meetings, etc.
    • Identify and implement with users and suppliers total cost reduction opportunities.
    • Build spreadsheets in support of savings plans and strategic purchasing initiatives.
    • Constantly look for new suppliers, new products, globally (Global Sourcing).
    • Elaborate purchasing strategies (needs assessment, supplier market, contracting strategy, etc.) for key purchasing segments (chemicals, MROs, utilities).
    • Define and implement a purchasing maturity improvement plan (instructions, policies, procedures, tools).
    • Manage parts warehouse.
    • Negotiate all purchasing contracts to ensure legality and minimize risks (MSAs).
    • Process purchase orders.
    • Manage supplier claims and claims to suppliers.
    • All other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree with 5-10 years working experience or 7-10 years commensurate working experience in business or engineering in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree in an industrial manufacturing facility. certification (e.g. ISM-CPSM).
    • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP computerized inventory or purchasing systems. MRO & CAPEX experience is required.
    • Strong interpersonal skills in communication, contract negotiations, supplier sourcing and supplier development.
    • Good at dealing with the uncertainty / subjectivity associated with the introduction of new products/components.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents and contracts.
    • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints.
    • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all related purchasing responsibilities.
    • Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with the ability to build multiple spreadsheets which can be transformed into clear and concise reports.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

    • Push, pull and lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
    • Stand, sit, walk, reach and bend as required.
    • Sit at a desk and operate a computer for an entire shift.
    • Work includes indoor and outdoor plant environments, and requires the ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
    • Wear safety gear and required PPE.
    • Pass drug test and background checks.
