Position Summary:  The Director of Operations is responsible for directing actions across an organization and direct managers to improve efficiency and reduce costs as needed.  the Director of Operations is to be responsible for the direction and management of Operations, Warehouse, Maintenance, Materials, and Laboratory departments. Direct reports include the Plant Manager, EAF Manager, Operations Supervisor, Laboratory Supervisor and the Capital Projects Manager.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Liaise with Senior Management to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals.
  • Work closely with senior management in developing long-term operational strategies that help meet company objectives.
  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress.
  • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements.
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability.
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation.
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors.
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Forecasts company business activity and financial performance and evaluates budget vs. actual vs. historical and makes adjustments to resource needs as required.
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations.
  • Functions as local leader of the Company’s Executive Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Chemical, Metallurgical or Technical field.
  • Minimum five years of work-related skill, knowledge and experience.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with the ability to build multiple spreadsheets which can be transformed into clear and concise reports.
  • Must use utmost discretion in all presentations, correspondence and communication with and for staff and top management.
  • Experience designing and implementing operation plans and procedures.
  • Prior experience with budgeting, forecasting, asset distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of safety, industrial, environmental, and government regulations.
  • Prior experience with contract negotiations, capital projects, and supplier selection process.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and people skills.
  • Good at dealing with the uncertainty / subjectivity.
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines.
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Must be able to:

  • Push, pull and lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
  • Stand, sit, walk, reach and bend as required.
  • Sit at a desk and operate a computer for an entire shift.
  • Wear safety gear and required PPE.
  • Pass employment background check including a drug and alcohol test.
